How do I make and manage "Insta Bookmarks"
The purpose of this article is to teach you how to manage and make instant bookmarks. In game these will be referred to by many players as "Instas". For all purposes we will assume you know how to create a bookmark in the "people and places" menu under "places". If you do not please make sure you do so now and understand how to create a simple bookmark in space here
First - What is and Instant Bookmark?
This type of bookmark is dependent upon two things. "Where you bookmark" and "what vector" you bookmark to the "object" your creating and instant bookmark for.
When people refer to the term "Insta", they are referring to being able to warp to and object (gate, station, etc. etc.) and not be at the default 15km from and object. Thus eliminating the need to fly up to a station or gate before using it.
To make a proper and good INSTA you need to do two things. First note which way (vector) you will be warping in to the object from, you wish to insta bookmark. This is important to make them work correctly. Second, you need to fly PAST the OBJECT, 12km from the VECTOR you are going to be warping in from, and make a bookmark. Next time you warp to that bookmark/object/location, you will come out of warp right on top of the object and be able to jump, dock etc. etc. instantly without having to fly up to the object from the default 15km distance. Thus you have "instant" or "insta" jumps and docking's upon coming out of warp.
Remember it is VERY important you bookmark, 12km PAST the OBJECT, from your WARP IN VECTOR for this to work effectively. Coming out of warp at a different "warp vector" can cause your bookmark to be off and not allow instant action.
Insta Bookmark TIPS:
Naming Conventions for Instas and why they can save you allot
of headaches
EvE does NOT save folders of bookmarks server side, however the bookmarks themselves are kept server side. This means if for any reason you must reload your client or remove your cache, your folders that organize all your server side bookmarks will be gone. For this reason, it may be best when creating instant bookmarks or any bookmarks to use a "naming convention".
Naming convention example:
A-1 Giff System Gate
A-2 Gerf System Gate
A-3 Glaf System Gate...next group
B-1 Biff System Gate
B-2 Boff System Gate
B-3 Borf System GateWhat this does is, if for any reason your folders get screwed or removed during a client reload/re-install, your bookmarks will fall into place, in order, for ease of management and folder recreation.
You Can bookmark in "mid warp" to Create a bookmark in dead space. This type of bookmark is known as a "safe spot". Although these are safe to a degree, as these are in a spot without a warpable object near you, good pilots and/or fleets of pilots will use scanners and scan probes to find your safe spot if you linger there to long and are being hunted. Safe spots however can save your hide allot of times and help you regroup to get out alive or fight back.
